Youtube channels for the curious!
Updated: Apr 18, 2018
Hello, let’s skip the formalities and get straight to business.
This is a list of my Top 11 favorite YouTube channels that I want everyone to watch. I know that is an unrealistic expectation for you to check out every single channel (or any at all for that matter); I’ll settle for even one channel checked out. These are channels that I love and find very helpful for learning new information. I will try to say very little about these channels as I believe the content stands for itself.
This list is in no particular order…
I love the TED series because it is simply so diverse; Nowhere else on the internet can you find this multitude of different experts teaching on their respective fields of knowledge. You can find an array of topics on this channel and will honestly get lost for hours while simultaneously learning. There are also many variants of this channel, ie. Ted-X, Ted-Ed, Ted Fellows, etc., so there is no content deficit, that’s for certain.
2. Minority Mindset
This guy is my go-to for financial advice. He also gives a lot of tips and tricks on how to just become and act like a better person overall. He is awesome and I could not say enough good things about him. If you love learning about finance and how to save money, Jaspreet Singh is an amazing asset to add to your list.
I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to describe this channel than the one Tierzoo himself gave, so here's that.
“Hi everyone, welcome to TierZoo, the web show which seeks to analyze the meta to determine the best current builds. I talk about the special abilities and build strats of various prominent animal classes and show people things they may have overlooked when specing their character. Okay but actually my goal is to get gamers interested in zoology, since there's a ton of amazing aspects of life on Earth that go underappreciated. Evolution has produced some bizarre traits, strategies, and life cycles that I feel need to be given the spotlight once in a while. I don't shy away from keeping the brutal with the beautiful, so if you're new to my content, be warned. Expect two videos per month.” https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHsRtomD4twRf5WVHHk-cMw
exurb1a is one of those channels that you don’t know you’re missing out on until you see your first video. Only then will you understand and want to watch more. I’ve spent way too much time on these videos. Sometimes he offers comedy gold and sometimes it’s genuine wisdom about life. Either way, the production quality is amazing and these videos only continue to get better. Huge fan of exurb1a. https://www.youtube.com/user/willunicycleforfood
5. Chillhop Music
I realize that this technically isn’t anything about learning but it’s been proven that music is really good for the brain. This is the channel that I use while studying because they have a 24/7 live stream radio of chill music with no lyrics that is perfect for studying.
It’s worth a check if you like background music!
6. Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
This channel is fully animated with amazing production quality and it honestly just keeps getting better. They have a plethora of videos to check out across a variety of subjects – but mainly focused around scientific inquiries. Guaranteed to keep you entertained for hours.
7. Its okay to be smart
Joe Hanson, Ph.D. Smart guy answering all those questions that you may have had as a kid. Smart guy answering all those questions that you may have had as an adult. Smart guy answering questions. https://www.youtube.com/user/itsokaytobesmart
8. Healthcare Triage
Do you like having research and evidence backed arguments? Do you like someone else to sift through the evidence for you? Look no further. Let Dr. Aaron Carroll debunk some common myths on numerous topics, from ‘marijuana’ to the ‘health care system of Taiwan’ to ‘Why Won’t the US Study Gun Deaths?’
This guy is awesome and I recommend checking him out!
(but I’ve said that about every single person on here lol).
9. Big Think
Now, think TED series but bigger names, ie. Neil Degrasse Tyson and Bill Nye. This channel also offers a plethora of diverse ideas from very smart individuals. I won’t go on too much more about this one as you probably get the picture. It’s worth checking out for sure.
10. Crash Course
With a variety of topics at your disposal, you can learn almost anything with the team behind Crash Course. I really enjoy Crash Course because they take you through the entire history of the
subject and continue through to our current understanding. If you want to top up on general subjects overall, check out Crash Course for sure. I feel school might be replaced by series like this one day. https://www.youtube.com/user/crashcourse
11. Philip DeFranco
I have never found someone who presents the news in a truly unbiased fashion.
You cannot get more close to unbiased than Philip DeFranco.
He is a smart guy with a lot to say!
He objectively reviews both sides of the story.
He subjectively gives his opinion on the story.
He finishes by asking for your opinion on the story.
Discussion is had by all.

12. Gordon Ramsay
Now I realize this is 12 and this list said 11. I don’t care, it’s my list. I couldn’t not include the Gordon Ramsay himself. Learn some cooking tips! What else have you got to do? https://www.youtube.com/user/gordonramsay
Well, there you have it. My top eleven Youtube channels at the moment. Hopefully you will find some content that you enjoy!
